How my phone almost ruined my life (but didn’t)
Hey, it’s me again,
If someone had told me that not checking my phone for one hour every morning would make such a difference…
I’d have shrugged it off.
I mean, it’s just an hour. What could possibly change?
Well, it turns out—a lot.
You see, like most people, my phone is practically always glued to my hand.
The morning scroll was my ritual.
I wake up, open WhatsApp, check Instagram, check Twitter (X)
Even when nothing urgent was there, I’d still scroll.
And so, 2 weeks ago, I decided to try something different.
“No phone for 2 hours after I wake up.”
It felt silly at first. Like, what’s the point?
But here’s the thing:
That first hour? It was hard.
I’d instinctively reach for my phone... stop myself...
And then spend a good 5 minutes just staring at my desk.
But by Day 3, I started noticing something unexpected.
My mornings felt... quieter.
Not in a “nothing’s happening” way—but in a “finally, I can hear myself think” kind of way.
I used that hour to plan my day, knock out tasks, and even sit with my thoughts (something I hadn’t done in ages).
By the end of Week 1, I realized something profound:
I wasn’t just gaining time.
I was gaining control.
Control over my attention.
Control over how my day started.
Control over where my focus went.
And, here’s the wild part:
That small, simple habit reshaped my entire day.
Tasks got done faster.
Stress levels dropped.
And the constant overwhelm of “too much to do” started to fade.
All because of one little experiment.
Now, I know not everyone struggles with their phone the way I did.
But if you’ve ever felt like your time is slipping through your fingers...
Or like your focus isn’t where it needs to be...
Then maybe it’s worth trying your own experiment.
It doesn’t have to be big or dramatic.
It could be as simple as:
Writing down 3 goals every morning before touching your phone.
Taking a quick 5-minute walk to clear your head before diving into work.
Pausing to drink a full glass of water as soon as you wake up.
Because here’s the thing:
The best breakthroughs often don’t come from dramatic changes.
They come from the smallest shifts—tiny habits that build over time (I learned that from Atomic Habits by James Clear).
So, what’s one small experiment you could try today?
You never know where it might lead.
Have a wonderful week ahead
